Hexordle is a Wordle spin-off where you solve six five-letter words at once in just 11 attempts. Every guess is applied to all six boards simultaneously, with the same green, yellow and grey tile feedback guiding you on each grid.
What Is Hexordle?
The name says it all: "Hexad" (six) meets Wordle. Where the original Wordle gives you one puzzle a day, Hexordle serves up six simultaneous boards and dares you to crack every one of them with a shared pool of guesses. It is the natural next step up from Dordle (two boards) and Quordle (four boards) — and widely considered the sweet spot between challenge and solvability. How to Play Hexordle
- Open Hexordle in your browser. It is free and web-based; no download or account is needed.
- Type a five-letter word. Your first guess can be any valid word — it will be applied to all six boards at once.
- Press Enter to submit. The tiles on every board change color to show how close the guess was to that board's hidden word.
- Read the colors on all six grids:
- Green — the letter is in the word and in the correct position.
- Yellow — the letter is in the word but in the wrong position.
- Grey — the letter is not in that word; drop it from your options on that board.
- Keep guessing. Each new word feeds information to all six boards simultaneously.
- Win by solving all six words within 11 attempts. The on-screen keyboard updates its colors to help you track which letters are confirmed, present, or eliminated. (Source: wordle-nyt.org/hexordle, wordle2game.com/hexordle)
The key skill is board awareness: a guess that looks dead on one board may be the breakthrough on another.
Daily Mode vs Free Mode
Hexordle offers two ways to play:
- Daily mode: one fixed puzzle per day for everyone. If you cannot find all six words before midnight, the day is lost — but a fresh match arrives the next day.
- Free mode: unlimited practice. Play as many puzzles as you like, and if you hit a dead end, hit "Next" to move straight to a new challenge. (Source: wordle-nyt.org/hexordle)
Daily mode is for the shared ritual and streak-building; free mode is where you learn the game.
7 Strategy Tips for Hexordle
- Open with information-dense words. Starters like RAISE, ROATE, or STARE cover the most common letters across six boards at once.
- Chase the greens first. Boards with green letters are closest to solved — secure them early so your remaining guesses can focus elsewhere.
- Play for breadth, not depth. Early on, use guesses that test fresh letters rather than burning attempts refining a single board.
- Watch the keyboard. With six boards competing for attention, the color-coded keyboard is your shared memory — check it before every guess.
- Isolate one board at a time late in the game. Once two or three boards are solved, spend dedicated guesses finishing the remaining stragglers.
- Respect the 11-guess limit. Six boards and eleven guesses means under two spare guesses per board on average — do not waste attempts repeating confirmed-grey letters.
- Practice in free mode. Multi-board play is a learned skill; unlimited rounds build the board-scanning habit fast. Our daily word puzzle tips apply here too — solid fundamentals transfer straight to multi-board play.
Hexordle Endgame: Solving the Last Two Boards
Most Hexordle runs are won or lost in the final three guesses, when four boards are solved and two stubborn grids remain. This is where disciplined endgame play matters:
- Stop testing new letters. With only two boards left, information gathering is over. Every remaining guess should be a genuine attempt at one of the unsolved words.
- List your candidates on paper. If a board shows _IGHT with no other clues, write out LIGHT, NIGHT, FIGHT, MIGHT, RIGHT, TIGHT, SIGHT and EIGHT. You cannot afford to forget one and burn a guess repeating a pattern.
- Use the solved boards as letter banks. Greens and yellows from finished boards tell you which letters exist in the day's word pool — carry that knowledge across.
- Pick the more constrained board. If one board has three greens and the other has one, solve the three-green board first; the extra letters it reveals may crack the other.
- Watch for duplicate letters. Endgame words often hide doubles (EERIE, LLAMA). If your candidate list is exhausted, test a double-letter guess before panicking.
Hexordle vs Other Multi-Wordle Games
| Boards | Guesses | Difficulty | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wordle | 1 | 6 | Gentle |
| Dordle | 2 | 7 | Easy |
| Quordle | 4 | 9 | Moderate |
| Hexordle | 6 | 11 | Hard but fair |
| Duotrigordle | 32 | 37 | Extreme |
| 64ordle | 64 | 70 | Brutal |
Hexordle sits in the sweet spot: hard enough to be a real achievement, but solvable in one sitting — which is why it has become one of the most popular multi-board variants.
Common Hexordle Mistakes to Avoid
- Guessing words with repeated letters early. Doubles like EERIE or LLAMA waste a letter slot that could be testing fresh letters across six boards. Save repeats for the endgame.
- Ignoring grey letters on other boards. A grey is board-specific in effect but alphabet-wide in value: that letter is dead everywhere, so never type it again in any context.
- Chasing one board too early. Spending guesses 3–5 refining a single tricky board while five others sit clue-less starves the whole run. Breadth first, depth later.
- Forgetting the keyboard. With six boards competing for attention, players regularly retype confirmed-grey letters. Glance at the colour-coded keyboard before every submit.
- Playing daily mode before you're ready. The daily puzzle is one shot — learn the format in free mode first, where mistakes cost nothing.
Where to Play Hexordle Free
Hexordle is free to play in any modern browser. Try it at wordle2game.com/hexordle, dordle.online/hexordle, or wordhurdle.co/hexordle. Daily and free modes are available on most portals, and progress is stored locally in your browser.
All three portals run the same core format — six five-letter boards, eleven shared guesses, green-yellow-grey tile feedback — with daily and free modes available on most. Since progress is stored locally in your browser, your streaks and stats live on your device, not an account, which means the experience is identical whether you play on desktop or mobile. If the daily mode feels too punishing at first, start with free mode's unlimited practice rounds: board management is a learned skill, and a dozen low-pressure runs will teach you more about information-dense openers than any strategy list.
